  • You need a deep rooted conviction, linked to a tangible outcome.
    • Internal outcome - What will this do for you personally?
    • External outcome - What will this do for the people or causes you care about?
 
What are your limiting beliefs about wealth and money?
  • That’s not for me. I can’t do it. Money is bad. 
  • Big man - Small man complex
  • I’m entitled to a life of luxury.
  • It’s too complicated.  I can’t afford to save.
 
Integrity and Discipline
  • Take a holistic approach.  Let integrity and discipline be characteristics that flow through different parts of your life.
  • Deferred gratification. Sacrifice now, enjoy later, celebrate small wins often.
 
YOU are a small business!
  • Entrepreneurs?  Your business is not your pocket book.  Keep things separate!
  • Budget, track expenses, plan for large purchases, plan for large inflows (re-invest or save?)
  • You can’t grow what you don’t track. Set specific targets.
  • Consider how you will improve and market your services to reach the people who can pay you more money.

  • When there’s a big (or small) opportunity on the table people start asking two (2) questions:
    • Who do you know? What do you know about them?
  • Since word of mouth is still a powerful, compelling medium, it’s important to manage your reputation.
  • Ask for feedback and collect testimonials!
  • Reality check: The company or boss are in business to make money, not to make you happy.  If you want more from them, it’s your responsibility to build a compelling case.
  • Professionals are “Always On”! Even outside the office, the person controlling the next opportunity may be watching. Have fun, but consider how it will impact your reputation.
  • Quick take-away on character: It can take a lifetime to build, and 30 seconds to destroy.

  • Take time to mediate and center yourself
    • Be intentional about your leisure time. Make it a mini event, even if it’s just you!
  • Move your body, if you’re able. Get some exercise, outdoors if you can!
  • Read something specific to your profession and another specific to your journey 
  • Use the time to think about a complex problem outside your traditional work environment 
  • Draft emails. Consider using a service like Boomerang to schedule emails that will automatically be sent later.
  • Work on your vision board and action plan
    • If you could design your ideal lifestyle (which you can!) how would it look?
    • What three (3) actions will you absolutely take toward your goals during the coming week.
  • Rest early, rise early.

  • It's hard for people to believe that you can be good at more than thing. 
  • One dimensional people. Only capable of assuming singular traditional roles. 
    • Limited to people's expectations and stereotypes. 
    • Defined by the basic skills of their degree or profession
  • Two dimensional - Able to manage people and tasks
    • Competent in multiple technical skills that seem unrelated on the surface
    • Refuse to live and work within the limits of poorly crafted job descriptions
  • 3 dimensional - Able to navigate the technical and esoteric. And, not or. Art and science
    • Execute tasks, manage people, AND inspire people to imagine a new future
The challenges:
  1. How can 2D and 3D people convince a world run by 1D people that they exist and that we can coexist?
  2. How do you communicate that you are more than your job history or resume?
  3. How can managers spot 2D and 3D talent and leverage these anomalies to benefit the organization?
  4. How can 2D and 3D people present themselves as non-threatening enough to gain access to opportunities where they can demonstrate their powerful contributions?

    • Be involved in establishing and maintaining relationships with customers  
  • What can you offer where 1,000 people, would be willing to pay just $10 per month?
    • 1000 x $10 = $10,000 per month
    • $10,000 x 12 months = $120,000 per year!
  • Get addicted to progress and self improvement

  • Consider whether this warrants a call. 
    • Is this your first crucial interaction? Yes, call. 
    • Do you need a quick yes/no, or do you need to understand how they feel about an issue? Yes, call. 
  • Send an agenda before the call just like a live meeting. This focuses everyone's mind on the specific issues or outcomes you want to achieve. 
  • Set a time expectation. "This should take us about 30 minutes. I value your time so we will do our honor that with an efficient conversation." This says (politely) let's keep small talk to a minimum and get to work because we are all busy. 
  • Help people prepare by sending material they need to review in advance. 
  • Send a manual or automated reminder.
